The London Marathon (an experience)
Just remember on the day, what will be will be
If the sun is shining bright, a possible p.b.
But beware the streets of London on this special day
The tension and the banter can get in the way.
Prepare yourself for what's to come, keep your body calm
Do not drink or eat something that will later do you harm.
All those months of training can be lost, so just take care
A full cooked English breakfast smells good, but beware.
The new shoes bought a week ago, might seem ideal to wear
But leave them at home and take along the well-worn dirty pair.
The day itself is overwhelming, thousands there to run
You cannot even see the start and you will never hear the gun.
The toilet queue is endless but you will marvel at the scene
30,000 runners preparing for their dream.
Remember to start slowly, although it's hard to do
When it feels 20,000 runners are all ahead of you
It will be the hardest thing you will put your body through
At 20 miles the effort will seem too much for you
The mind is telling you to stop, the body doesn't care
But persevere, keep going, what a great memory to share.
